The Roles

We’ve achieved a lot in the four years since our inception. Established to maintain Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s properties, we carry out repairs and maintenance for more than 17,500 homes and approximately 600 public buildings across the city. We’ve built our reputation for being passionate about our community; providing decent homes for those in need, improving existing homes and working to benefit the community. And this drives everything we do.

Our focus now is on growing the business but not at the detriment of the day-to-day service we provide. We are maturing and, as a commercial vehicle, we are looking at how we can be a growth engine and bring more revenue into the city of Stoke. We’ve worked incredibly hard to build the organisation to where it is today, and in order continue to deliver our levels of service whilst commercialising the business, we now need to shift our operational model from one that is responsive to more planned maintenance.

Our Board is essential in helping us to do this. Our Board provides strategic oversight to our direction of travel, and works closely with the Executive to ensure we are delivering against the business plan. It is a vital link between Unitas and the shareholder, Stoke on Trent City Council. And importantly, it provides fresh perspective and professional insight in how we maximise the opportunities in front of us and navigate the challenges. We want our Board to celebrate diverse thinking, innovation, and to possess a balance of leadership, skills and experiences that compliment the executive.

This is where you’ll come in. We are seeking to recruit a new independent Chair and Independent Non-Executive Director to join the existing Board Members. This presents an exciting opportunity to join an effective Board structure and make your mark on our future direction of travel. It is an exciting opportunity to bring fresh thinking, and different skills to our Board and to work with us to evolve our approach.

We will be launching a new business plan in April, and the new Independent Chair and Independent Non-Executive Director will join as we start to mobilise against this. For the successful applicants,

you will bring insight and knowledge in how we can achieve our goals, and provide challenge and scrutiny to the Executive, building on the solid foundations laid to date and moving us forwards.

We are looking for an Independent Chair and Independent Non-Executive Director with experience of scaling companies. Whilst we are open minded on professional background, it is important we have a broad range of skills within the Board. Our passion for the region drives everything we do so it’s integral that you share this passion. You’ll have connections with the region and be able to match our ambition for doing work that benefits the community and makes real and lasting improvements.
